During the 2008 season, another great reason to purchase White Sox tickets was the performance of first baseman and designated hitter Paul Konerko, who in September was named as one of the six American League finalists for the Hank Aaron Award, presented annually to each league's best hitter. Konerko, a lifetime .279 hitter, had an average of .280 during the first 138 games he played during 2005 campaign. He was also on pace to hit at least 40 dingers and drive in more than 100 runs for the second consecutive season. How good is Konerko? In a recent interview with MLB.com, his manager Ozzie Gullen called him "my captain and the leader of my team... Offensively, we know he's going to carry this team when we need him." Strong praise, but definitely earned by one of the finest hitters in recent memory to have donned a White Sox jersey, and perhaps the best hitter in the American League.
